More about Goldfish

Goldfish (Carassius auratus) are one of the most well-known and popular freshwater fish species, cherished for their vibrant colors and calm demeanor. Originating from China over a thousand years ago, they have been selectively bred into various varieties, including Common Goldfish, Comet, and the ornamental Fancy Goldfish. Goldfish are highly versatile and can be housed in both aquariums and ponds. In outdoor ponds, they can grow larger and exhibit more natural behaviors due to the increased space. In contrast, aquarium setups are more controlled and suited to smaller spaces, but still require a minimum of 40 liters per fish to ensure a healthy environment.

Goldfish are cold-water fish, thriving at temperatures between 18-22°C, making them ideal for outdoor ponds in many climates. However, fancy varieties with delicate fins and slower swimming abilities are better suited to aquariums, where they can be better protected from injury or competition for food.

Goldfish can recognize their owners and may even learn to respond to feeding routines, swimming to the surface when they see you!
