Porkfish Profile

The Porkfish (Anisotremus virginicus) is characterized by its striking appearance with yellow body coloring, accented by two distinctive black vertical bands running across its head and front body. Originating from the Western Atlantic Ocean, including regions from Florida and the Bahamas down to Brazil, the Porkfish inhabits reef environments. This species is visually distinguishable by its deep-bodied, compressed shape, and it reaches a size of up to 40 centimeters (about 16 inches) in length. While it is known for its vibrant coloration and presence within its natural range, the Porkfish is not primarily recognized as a common species within the aquarium hobby, mainly due to its size and specific care requirements.
