More about Spotted garden-eel

The Spotted garden-eel (Heteroconger hassi) is a slender, tube-shaped fish primarily characterized by its white body spotted with black. It originates from the Indo-Pacific region, where it resides in sandy burrows on the ocean floor. Growing up to 40 cm in length, this eel is noted for its peculiar behavior of poking just its head out of the burrow, swaying with the current to feed on zooplankton. Despite its distinctive appearance and interesting behavior, it is not commonly found in the aquarium hobby, largely due to its specialized habitat and feeding requirements.
