More about Harlequin shrimp

The Harlequin Shrimp, renowned for its striking and unique appearance, features vibrant patterns of blue, purple, and white on its body and legs. This small but captivating shrimp prefers temperatures between 24-28°C (75-82°F) and a pH range of 8.1-8.4. It typically reaches a maximum length of about 5 cm (2 inches) and is primarily a bottom dweller. With a relatively peaceful temperament, Harlequin Shrimp are best kept in pairs and require careful attention to their specific dietary needs, as they primarily feed on starfish. They are considered moderately hardy but need stable and well-maintained tank conditions. Due to their specialized diet, they can be somewhat rare and are not as commonly found in the aquarium trade. It’s recommended to keep them in a tank size of at least 30 liters (8 gallons) per shrimp.

Did you know?

Harlequin Shrimp can immobilize and consume starfish much larger than themselves, often feeding on them for days or even weeks.
