Overview

The Bee Shrimp, known for its striking appearance and peaceful demeanor, is a popular choice for aquarium enthusiasts. Its moderate affordability and moderate maintenance level make it an interesting addition to both beginner and experienced hobbyists alike.

Tank Setup

Bee Shrimp thrive in freshwater aquariums that mimic their natural habitat. Provide them with a well-planted environment using fine-leaf plants, moss, and driftwood to create hiding spaces. This setup not only ensures their security but also promotes healthy molting activities.

Maintain a water temperature between 68°F to 76°F, pH levels of 6.5 to 7.5, and a hardness level of 4 to 6 dGH. A filtration system that creates gentle water flow is optimal for their comfort. Regular water changes of around 10% weekly are crucial to maintain water quality and prevent the buildup of harmful substances.

Feeding

Bee Shrimp are scavengers by nature and will eat algae and biofilm in the tank. Supplement their diet with high-quality shrimp pellets, blanched vegetables, and occasional bloodworms or brine shrimp for variety. Ensure not to overfeed, as uneaten food can degrade water quality.

Breeding

Bee Shrimp are easy to breed under optimal conditions. They exhibit no change in behavior during breeding, making the process peaceful and stress-free for these creatures. Provide them with a stable environment and optimal water conditions to encourage successful breeding. Female shrimps carry eggs under their tails for about 3 to 4 weeks until they hatch directly into miniature shrimps.

Cohabitation and Behavior

Being very peaceful creatures, Bee Shrimp can be housed with other non-aggressive species in a community tank. They thrive in groups, and keeping them in larger numbers will reduce territorial behavior and increase their overall activity and health.

Mildly territorial, Bee Shrimp may establish small territories within the aquarium. Adequate space and plenty of hiding spots can help mitigate any signs of territorial behavior. Regularly monitor the tank environment and shrimp behavior to ensure harmony among tank inhabitants.
