❤️ Care

The Cambodian Log Sucker is a hardy, algae-grazing freshwater fish from the fast-flowing rivers of Southeast Asia. With its sucker-like mouth and constant activity, it makes a great addition to river-style aquariums and planted tanks alike. It’s often sought after for its algae-cleaning habits and quirky behaviour, clinging to rocks and glass even in strong current.

These fish prefer soft to moderately hard water and thrive in temperatures between 22 to 26°C, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. A well-oxygenated tank with clean water and steady flow will mimic their natural habitat and keep them at their healthiest. Make sure to provide smooth rocks, driftwood, and shaded areas, as they enjoy having spaces to graze and rest.

Though primarily herbivorous, they benefit from a varied diet. Offer algae wafers, spirulina, and fresh blanched vegetables like cucumber or zucchini. Occasional protein like bloodworms or brine shrimp will be welcomed, especially during conditioning.

Cambodian Log Suckers are generally peaceful with other species, but can become mildly territorial with their own kind. They do best either alone or in small groups of three to five where space allows, reducing the likelihood of dominant behaviour. They typically occupy the bottom to mid-levels of the tank and get along well with active, peaceful tank mates such as danios, loaches, and rasboras.

While they are easy to care for, breeding them is a much more complex and rarely achieved feat in captivity.
