Breeding Process
Dwarf Gouramis are known to be bubble nest builders, similar to Betta fish. The breeding process can easily be accomplished in a home aquarium with the correct conditions. To start, set up a breeding tank separate from the community tank to prevent aggression and territorial disputes. The tank should be equipped with floating plants to help the male construct the bubble nest. Ensure the water temperature is at the higher end of their tolerance range, ideally around 28°C to 30°C, and maintain a pH level between 6 and 8. The breeding tank should be dimly lit, as Dwarf Gouramis prefer a subdued environment for mating. Introduce a pair into the tank, making sure the male has a chance to build a bubble nest before introducing the female. The male will court the female through displays of vibrant colors and will attempt to lead her to the nest. If the female is receptive, spawning will occur under the nest, and the male will retrieve the eggs, placing them in the bubble nest.Care of Fry
After spawning, the male will guard the nest aggressively, showing highly territorial behavior. It is recommended to remove the female post-spawning to avoid any potential injury caused by the male's aggression. The eggs will hatch within 24 to 36 hours. Once hatched, the fry will initially feed on their yolk sacs. After a few days, they should be fed appropriately sized foods such as infusoria or commercial fry food until they are large enough to consume baby brine shrimp or micro worms.Additional Tips
To ensure a successful batch of fry: - Keep the breeding tank free from strong currents as it can destroy the bubble nest. - Perform regular but gentle water changes to keep the water quality high without disturbing the nest. - Introduce a sponge filter to provide filtration without disturbing the nest or fry. Raising Dwarf Gourami fry requires patience and careful observation, but with the correct setup and care, it can be a rewarding experience.📊 Datasheet
