❤️ Care

The Firewood Catfish is a resilient and moderately popular addition to your aquarium. It resides well in various tank habitats, being a surface, mid-tank, and bottom dweller. You'll find it relatively affordable and it requires a moderate level of maintenance for optimal care.

Care Requirements

Maintaining proper water conditions is crucial for the well-being of your Firewood Catfish. Ideal pH levels range between 6.5 to 7.5, and the temperature of the water should be consistently kept between 22°C to 28°C. These parameters help ensure the health and longer lifespan of your fish.

Feeding

The Firewood Catfish enjoys a varied diet. To keep them healthy and vibrant, feed them a mix of flakes, pellets, and freeze-dried foods. Additionally, offer them protein-rich options like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and frozen shrimp, as well as vegetable matter and algae wafers for balanced nutrition. Daphnia and micro worms can also be included for the nutrition diversity they provide. To enhance their natural colors, supplement their diet with color-enhancing food. Feeding should be regulated to prevent overfeeding and maintain water quality.

Tank Setup

When setting up the tank, ensure a generous space as the Firewood Catfish can grow between 25 cm to 40 cm in length. A minimum of 10 liters per fish is needed, and as they are social fish, they thrive in a school size of at least six individuals. It's important to provide an environment with plenty of hiding spots to accommodate their moderately territorial nature.

Social Behavior

The Firewood Catfish is very peaceful and shows minimal aggression, making it a great tank mate for other peaceful species. However, during breeding, they may become moderately more aggressive, so monitor their interactions during this period closely.

With their social nature, resilience, and appealing dietary variety, the Firewood Catfish can be a delight to care for in your home aquarium.
