The glass catfish is a unique aquatic species admired for its transparent body. Due to their peaceful nature and schooling behavior, they require specific care to thrive in an aquarium setting.

Care Process

Glass catfish exhibit moderate hardiness, making them suitable for aquarists with some experience. They prefer water with a pH range of 6.4 to 7.8 and temperatures between 23°C and 28°C. Regular water changes and maintenance are essential to keep the aquarium clean and to ensure water parameters remain stable. Due to their mild territorial behavior, they coexist peacefully with other non-aggressive species.

Feeding

These fish have a diverse diet and enjoy a mix of live, fresh, and prepared foods. Feeding options include flakes, pellets, bloodworms, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, and frozen shrimp. Additionally, incorporating vegetable matter, algae wafers, and color-enhancing food can keep glass catfish healthy and vibrant. Avoid overfeeding to maintain water quality.

Tank Setup

Provide a spacious tank to accommodate their minimum school size of eight individuals. A tank should offer at least 20 liters of water per fish to ensure ample swimming space. The glass catfish prefer a habitat that includes surface, mid-tank, and bottom dwelling areas. Include plants and hiding spots to mimic their natural environment and reduce stress.
