Hognosed brochis Care Guide

Brochis multiradiatus

❤️ Care

The Hognosed Brochis is a moderate-difficulty species to care for, suitable for aquarists with some experience. They are characterized by their peaceful nature and love for swimming in schools. Here’s how to provide the best environment and care for them in your aquarium.

Tank Setup

Hognosed Brochis are bottom dwellers that thrive in well-maintained community tanks. Ensure a minimum tank volume of 75 liters per fish, and keep them in schools of at least six to maintain their social behavior. Decorate the tank with plenty of hiding spots using plants, driftwood, and rocks, but make sure there's still plenty of open space for swimming. It's essential to have a smooth substrate to prevent injuries to their delicate barbels.

Water Conditions

Maintain a comfortable water temperature between 23°C and 28°C, with a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5. Regular water changes and a well-filtered tank will keep your brochis healthy, as they have moderate hardiness. Ensure good aeration and adequate water flow to mimic their natural habitat.

Feeding

Hognosed Brochis are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. Provide them with a mix of flakes and pellets, as well as live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, tubifex worms, daphnia, and micro worms. Incorporate some vegetable matter and algae wafers to ensure a balanced diet. Supplement their diet with color-enhancing foods and some occasional feeder fish or freeze-dried foods for variety. Stick-on tablets can also be an occasional treat.

Behaviour and Compatibility

These fish are known for being very peaceful and are best suited for a community tank with similarly peaceful inhabitants. They exhibit moderate territorial behavior but rarely show aggression, even during breeding. Providing them with a compatible environment will allow them to display their natural social characteristics.

Maintenance

Maintenance for the Hognosed Brochis is considered moderate. Regular water changes and monitoring of water parameters are crucial for keeping the environment conducive for their well-being. As they are moderately priced, maintaining them can fit within a reasonable budget.

By providing the correct environment, diet, and companionship, your Hognosed Brochis will thrive and become a vibrant addition to your aquatic collection.
