Breeding Process
Moonlight gouramis are moderate in terms of breeding difficulty and are mostly bred successfully by hobbyists. To initiate breeding, it is important to set up a separate breeding tank that mimics their natural environment. The breeding tank should have a temperature range of 25°C to 28°C and a pH level between 6 and 7.5. Include floating plants or materials where male moonlight gouramis can build bubble nests. Males usually become more colorful during the breeding phase and are slightly more aggressive as they defend their breeding territory. To identify a pair ready for breeding, look for a male that is displaying vivid coloration and actively constructing a bubble nest. Introduce a mature female into the tank and monitor interactions. Courtship involves the male wrapping around the female to help her release eggs, which he then fertilizes and places into the bubble nest.Care of the Fry
After spawning, it is advisable to remove the female from the breeding tank to prevent any aggression from the male. The male will continue caring for the eggs and nest. Eggs usually hatch within 24-48 hours, and the fry become free-swimming after 3-5 days. Once the fry are free-swimming, remove the male to prevent any risk of him eating the fry. Initially, fry should be fed infusoria or commercially available liquid fry food, gradually transitioning to freshly hatched brine shrimp or microworms as they grow. Ensure a peaceful and stable environment to minimize stress as they mature.Additional Information
Ensure the breeding tank has gentle filtration to avoid disturbing the bubble nest. Regular water changes are important to maintain water quality, but care should be taken to not disturb the nest or eggs. Moonlight gouramis thrive in community tanks, so once fry are of appropriate size, they can be transitioned to a community setup. Patience and close observation are key to successfully breeding and raising moonlight gouramis.📊 Datasheet
