Creating a suitable environment for the Northern Studfish involves replicating the clear, shallow waters of its native habitat.

• Tank Requirements: A tank of at least 75 liters (20 gallons) with sandy or gravel substrate to mimic its natural environment. Add moderate to dense aquatic plants and provide ample swimming space.
• Water Conditions: The ideal temperature range is 15-24°C (59-75°F) with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Ensure strong filtration to keep the water clear and low in pollutants.
• Diet: Primarily carnivorous, Northern Studfish often prefer live food like small insects, worms, and crustaceans. They can adapt to frozen or freeze-dried alternatives, though live food is essential for optimal health and coloration.
