The Sebae Anemone is a delicate and moderately popular aquatic entity that requires high maintenance. Its vibrant appearance makes it a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. However, as an aquarist, you should be prepared for the challenges associated with its care.

Care Process

Ensuring the health and longevity of the Sebae Anemone involves maintaining pristine water conditions. As it is sensitive, regular monitoring of water parameters such as pH, salinity, temperature, and nitrates is essential. Maintain a stable temperature range of 72-78°F (22-25°C) and keep the pH between 8.1 and 8.4. The salinity level should be consistent, ideally between 1.023 and 1.025 specific gravity. It's crucial to perform weekly water changes to avoid any detrimental fluctuations in water quality.

Feeding

The Sebae Anemone obtains nutrients through photosynthesis, facilitated by the high light environment through its symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae. In addition to light, supplement its diet with meaty foods such as shrimp, pieces of fish, or specialized anemone foods once or twice a week. Feed cautiously to avoid overfeeding, which can lead to water quality issues.

Tank Setup

Adequate space and a stable substrate are vital for the Sebae Anemone to anchor itself securely. Choose a tank size of at least 30 gallons (113 liters) to accommodate its potential growth. The tank should have strong water flow, but ensure it is not too harsh, as it may damage the anemone's delicate tentacles. Live rock arrangements can provide attachment points and contribute beneficial microorganisms to the tank ecosystem. Ensure the lighting system is robust, providing the required high light levels for optimal health and coloration.

Additional Considerations

The Sebae Anemone displays aggressive and highly territorial behaviors, so careful consideration of tank mates is essential. It may coexist with clownfish species, benefitting both parties through a symbiotic relationship. However, avoid housing it with other anemones or aggressive tank mates that may disturb or harm it. Also, ensure that all tank equipment (such as powerheads and filters) is anemone-safe. Anemone guards can help prevent accidental injury caused by wandering tentacles. Regular observation of its behavior and positioning in the tank can be indicative of its health status, alerting you to any potential issues early.
