❤️ Care
Tank Setup and Water Conditions:
- Bettas thrive in smaller tanks, but a minimum of 10 liters (2.5 gallons) is recommended for healthier living conditions.
- They prefer a temperature range of 24-30°C (75-86°F), making a heater essential in most environments.
- The pH level should be slightly acidic to neutral, ideally around 6.5-7.5.
- Bettas are labyrinth fish, meaning they possess a labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe air from the surface. Thus, a low-flow filter is best, as strong currents can stress them.
Feeding:
- Bettas enjoy a varied diet, including pellet fish foods specifically made for bettas and frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp.
- They also benefit from live foods to enhance their natural hunting instincts, although frozen options are more practical for most fishkeepers.
Fish Tank Mates:
- • Bettas can live with certain tank mates, though care must be taken. Cherry shrimp, for instance, can coexist peacefully with a betta if there’s plenty of cover.
- Bettas may not tolerate fin nippers or overly active fish. Ideal mates for your betta include species like corydoras or harlequin rasboras, which generally keep to themselves.
- Avoid housing multiple male bettas together due to their aggressive nature, although females can sometimes live in groups called sororities if managed carefully.
