Weather Loaches are hardy and adaptable, making them suitable for a variety of freshwater setups. They are peaceful and social fish that thrive best in groups, so it’s recommended to keep them in schools of at least 3 to 5 individuals. They can grow up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length, so a minimum tank size of 150 liters is recommended. Their preferred water temperature ranges from 15-25°C, and they do well in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH of 6.5-8.0.

These bottom-dwelling fish are natural burrowers and will often dig into the substrate, so it’s essential to provide soft sand or fine gravel to avoid injuring their sensitive barbels. The tank should also include plenty of hiding spots such as driftwood, rocks, or aquatic plants. Weather Loaches are known to be escape artists, so it’s important to have a secure lid on the aquarium.

In terms of diet, Weather Loaches are omnivorous and will eat a variety of foods, including sinking pellets, live or frozen worms, insect larvae, and plant matter. They are excellent scavengers and will help keep the tank clean, but their diet should be supplemented with balanced, nutrient-rich foods to ensure they receive proper nutrition. Due to their ability to tolerate colder water temperatures, they can also be kept in unheated aquariums or even outdoor ponds in temperate climates.
