🐠 Breeding
Breeding Coral Banded Shrimp in captivity is rare but possible under the right conditions. These shrimp are known to engage in ritualistic courtship behavior when kept as a mated pair, and they will often clean each other before mating.
- Sexual Dimorphism: Males are typically smaller than females, and observing this size difference can help in identifying pairs for breeding. Successful breeding requires a mature, stable reef tank with plenty of hiding spots and consistent water conditions.
- Breeding Setup: A separate breeding tank may be necessary if fry are to be raised successfully, as adult shrimp or other tank inhabitants may prey on the larvae. After mating, the female will carry eggs under her abdomen until they hatch. The larvae are planktonic and difficult to rear in a home aquarium, as they require specialized care, including feeding on microscopic plankton.
