The Coral Banded Shrimp is relatively hardy but does require a stable, well-maintained environment to thrive. Its natural habitat consists of tropical coral reefs, and in captivity, the shrimp should be provided with similar conditions.
- Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 30 liters (8 gallons) per shrimp is recommended, though larger setups are ideal for providing ample space, especially if other invertebrates or fish are present.
- Water Quality: Coral Banded Shrimp are sensitive to changes in water quality, so regular maintenance and water testing are essential. They thrive in a water temperature range of 22-26°C (72-79°F) with a pH range of 8.1-8.4 and a salinity level of 1.023-1.025. Stable water parameters are crucial for their long-term health, and poor water conditions can lead to stress or disease.
- Diet: In the wild, Coral Banded Shrimp are scavengers, feeding on detritus, small invertebrates, and algae. In captivity, they readily accept a variety of foods, including frozen foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other marine-based frozen diets. Supplementing their diet with meaty foods ensures they remain healthy and vibrant. They may also consume leftovers from fish feedings, contributing to the overall cleanliness of the tank.
- Tankmates: Coral Banded Shrimp are generally considered reef safe, meaning they can coexist peacefully in a reef tank with corals, fish, and other invertebrates. However, their semi-aggressive behavior means they may show hostility toward other shrimp species or smaller invertebrates like hermit crabs. It’s best to avoid keeping them with other shrimp unless they are a mated pair.
